Interview with Hormoz
Emmami-Khalkhali, the Director of Bam, the Eastern Gateway of Iran
The greatest mud-brick buildings are located in Iran
Why did you make this film?
This film is a study about what caused citadel of Arg-e - Bam to
destroy massively by earthquake, and it wants to know why some other
mud-brick buildings have resisted in similar situation, while
citadel of Arg-e-Bam were suffered a massive damage. We cannot
simply say the reason was its mud-brick structure. I think that huge
destruction was because of wrong reconstruction measures that took
place in citadel of Arg-e-Bam, in recent years.
Have you compare this issue with similar natural disasters, which
take place abroad?
No, because Iran is genesis of mud-brick architecture in the world,
and the greatest mud-brick buildings are located in Iran.
One of much discussed issues of this year festival is, distributing
short and documentary film, when you produce a film, do you have any
concern about what happens during post production process?
Yes, but most of my films are backed up financially by the state,
and it not much concerned about the money which invested. However,
if I want to do this on my own, I should consider the problems.
What qualities would make a documentary film to recognize
internationally?
I have my own standards. First, it should be about our cultural
heritage. Second, it has to be a scientific documentary, which is an
international standard, and finally, it should be well in matter of
photography and technical aspects.
